Dressage

Posted by Saddle Up on Jun 27th 2019

Dressage is one of the oldest forms of riding, dating back to ancient Greece. Classical dressage is an excellent foundation for any horse, regardless of what discipline you plan to go into whether English or Western.

Dressage at its core is all about helping the horse achieve self-carriage and consists of a series of movements to achieve and emphasize this. The horse and rider team work and perform in a rectangular-shaped arena marked with letters, which serve as markers for particular movements and/or transitions during a test.

There are many different levels of dressage that you can compete in, depending on you and your horse’s level of training. You are scored on how perfectly you and your horse perform a maneuver. The judge will also give comments on each maneuver which is very helpful in advancing your skills.
