Water

Posted by Saddle Up on May 9th 2018

Water is the number one most important thing that horses must have in order to live and they should have access to fresh, clean water 24/7.

The two most popular ways of providing water for your horses is either an automatic waterer or a water trough. There are pros and cons to each one.

Automatic waterers refill themselves or allow the horse to refill it so you don’t need to worry as much about filling it yourself. However sometimes they break down or have electric problems and some horses don’t like drinking out of automatic waterers.

With a water trough you have to do the refilling yourself but there is no fear of the water trough breaking down!

Either way you go it is also important that the water troughs are always clean, so make sure you take some time every once and a while to give all your water troughs a good scrubbing with a hose and a brush before refilling them.

You may also want to consider the quality of your water and where it comes from as this can affect the horse’s health in a big way, though it may not be visibly apparent or obvious.

Water is important all year round but essential to the horse’s survival, health, and general well being during the heat of the summer months.
